A 3mm square Asscher cut CZ held in four prongs. The Asscher is a stepped square cut with clipped corners — instead of the small triangular facets of a round brilliant, it has broad rectangular steps that run inward toward the center.

That gives it a different kind of shine. A brilliant cut scatters light into fine flashes; an Asscher reflects it in wider planes, so you get depth and a sense of looking into the stone rather than off its surface. It's the cut people describe as looking like a hall of mirrors.

Prongs grip from the corners rather than wrapping the stone, so light reaches it from underneath — which matters on the colored versions, where light from below is what gives the emerald and aqua their depth.

How threadless works: the top has a small pin on the back. Bend the pin slightly, slide it into the hollow end of a threadless labret bar, and the tension holds it in place. More bend equals a tighter hold. If a top ever feels loose, take it out and add a little more bend to the pin.

Choosing a bar: tops are universal across gauges, but the bar is not. Pick your bar by the gauge and length of the piercing you're wearing it in.
