Huggie Hoop Earrings

Huggies are the small hinged hoops that sit close to the ear instead of hanging from it. They hug the lobe — which is where the name comes from — and click shut with a hinge, so there's no post or backing to lose. They're the easiest hoop to wear all day and the easiest to sleep in.

Everything here is sold as a pair and made for healed lobes. Sizes run 8mm to 14mm inner diameter. An 8mm sits snug against the lobe; 10mm gives a little more movement and is the most popular size; 12mm and up start to read as a small hoop rather than a huggie.

Choosing a material:

  • Implant grade titanium (ASTM F-136) — nickel-free and biocompatible. The right choice if you have sensitive ears, react to costume jewelry, or want one pair you never have to think about.
  • 316L surgical steel — durable and budget-friendly, with more design variety. Surgical steel contains a small amount of nickel bound in the alloy. Most people wear it without any issue, but if you have a known nickel sensitivity, go with implant grade titanium instead.

A note on placement: huggie earrings are designed for healed lobe piercings. For a fresh or healing piercing — lobe or cartilage — wear implant grade titanium and follow your piercer's guidance on jewelry and downsizing. New cartilage piercings need at least six months before changing jewelry, and often longer.

It's a durable, long-lasting finish. Like any plating, it will wear gradually with daily friction — taking hoops off before workouts, swimming, and showering will keep the color looking new longer.
