Threaded Flat Back

A threaded flat back is the traditional version of the same idea: a flat disc that sits against the skin, a smooth post through the piercing, and a decorative end that screws on. The disc spreads pressure and gives nothing for hair or fabric to catch on, which is why flat backs beat butterfly clasps for anything worn around the clock.

Internally threaded means the bar is smooth with a small socket at the end, and the top carries the thread that screws into it. That is the design worth having — nothing sharp passes through your tissue when you change jewelry. Externally threaded pieces drag the thread through the channel every time, which is why we do not stock them.

Threaded ends do loosen over time. A thread against moving tissue will slowly back off, so check yours weekly and re-snug before bed if it sits somewhere that gets knocked. Snug is enough — overtightening strips the thread. If you are tired of checking, threadless has nothing to unscrew.
