An opal nose stud is small enough to be subtle and bright enough to notice. The stone shifts as the light moves — blue to green to pink depending on the angle — which is a lot of colour from something a couple of millimetres across.
This collection covers our opal nose jewelry: studs, screws, L-bends and hoops in 20G and 18G.
The opals are synthetic rather than natural, which is the right choice for a nostril. Natural opal is porous and soft enough to chip, and a nose stud takes more knocks than most jewelry — towels, sleeves, pillowcases. Synthetic opal has the same play of colour with the durability to survive that, and the colour stays consistent piece to piece.
Stones are set flush or bezel-mounted rather than prong-held, which keeps the front smooth. That matters in a nostril more than people expect — a raised prong catches every time a towel goes past.
Settings come in implant-grade titanium and 316L surgical steel, and each product page states which. For a healing nostril, choose titanium — ASTM F-136 and nickel-free. A nostril heals in 3 to 6 months.
