Black is a PVD finish over implant-grade titanium. PVD bonds the colour to the metal at high temperature, which makes it far more durable than plating — but it is still a coating, and what matters is the base metal underneath. Ours is ASTM F-136 titanium, so the piece is safe in a piercing whatever happens to the finish over time.

That is the question worth asking of any black jewelry you buy. Black over titanium is fine. Black over an unnamed alloy is a reaction waiting to happen once the coating wears.
